Goals from youngster Danny Welbeck, Anderson and brilliant Wayne Rooney ensured a 3-0 win for the English Champions Manchester United over Tottenham in the Barclays Premier League on Monday.
It had been a frustrating night for Sir Alex Ferguson's young team until 20-year-old Welbeck, raised just a couple of miles away in Longsight, rose to guide home Tom Cleverley's inch perfect cross.
Welbeck's cheeky back-heel set up midfielder Anderson for the second and Tottenham had given the game up for dead by the time Rooney headed from close range from a trade mark Ryan Giggs cross.
United were without their skipper Nimanja Vidic and his partner and deputy Rio Ferdinand due to respective injuries, but the young guns Smalling, Evans and new signing Jones were excellent in the defence throughout the match.
Tom Cleverly proved once again that he could be the idel replacement for United legend Paul Scholes with his brilliant passes and crosses. But the real hero of the game was ever working Wayne Rooney, he looked sharp and quick throughout the game and scored a well deserved goal in the 86th minute.
Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez made his first appearance of the season as a second half substitute, after recovering from a concussion.
Tottenham were slow at the start and then showed glimpse of last season’s form in the second half. Van der Vaart tested United’s young keeper De Gea with few long range shots, but the youngster dealt with it comfortably. His 40 year-old counterpart Brad Friedel made some excellent saves to keep Spurs in the hunt.
Over all it was a quiet game for the North London outfit and the Red Devils were prolific throughout the match.
United claimed the second spot behind their noisy neighbors Man City in the table, City are ahead only due to superior goal difference.
United next match is at the Old Trafford against their rivals Arsenal on Sunday.
