Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea is having a medical at Manchester United. He is all set to fill the space left by Veteran Goal Keeper Van der Sar.

The Spanish goalkeeper has been identified as the long-term successor to Edwin van der Sar at Old Trafford and United are prepared to spend more than £17million to secure his signature.

De Gea proved his potential on Saturday as he helped Spain to European Under-21 Championship glory.Having put transfer discussions on hold while he competed in that tournament, he is now prepared to push ahead with a move to England.

De Gea arrived at the Bridgewater Hospital and is all set to put the finishing touches to an agreement with United.

His arrival at Old Trafford will see the Red Devils push their summer spending spree past the £50million mark and continue with their policy of snapping up young talent.

Ferguson has already signed England Under-21 defender Phil Jones from Blackburn and England winger Ashley Young from Aston Villa.

Ferguson was keen to fill the void left by the vastly-experienced Van der Sar as quickly as possible and De Gea, regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, was identified very early on by the Red Devils Manager.

United are also looking to sign a creative midfielder with Arsenal's Samir Nasri and Inter's Wesley Sneijder on top of Sir Alex's wish list.
